2005 Griffith Park Sidecar Rally
Sponsored by Side Strider Inc. and the Sidecar Industry Council, the 34th Annual Griffith Park Sidecar Rally was held in Los Angeles on October 23, 2005. Just east of the Hollywood studios more than 50 sidecar rigs of all types and persuasions were gathered to show off the eccentricities and benefits of a bike and a half. An XS650 was in the mix as were some of those new fangled vertical twins—the reborn Triumph Bonneville.
Hundreds more motorcyclists rode in to view the sidecar rigs, socialize, and show off their own machines. An eclectic crowd it was, ranging from a twenty-plus contingent of moped riders to your standard fare Harley riders. What stood out most was the significant presence of new Brit Iron. Riders decked out in 60s rocker gear were everywhere atop new Bonnevilles. The T-100 and Thruxton are real eye catchers and dare I say, exhibiting better qualities than the tried and true XS650. Maybe it’s time for Yamaha to repeat history and bring out a new Japanese Bonneville.
