Shanes Street Tracker:
Hi, Here
is my 1978 XS 650 Special. I picked this bike up on New
Years day 2008, for 200 bucks. It was sitting in some dudes
yard under a foot of snow. I brought it home to my at the
time unheated garage and starting cutting off tabs and cleaning
it up. After a temporary move and another permanent move I
still found time to work on the bike. It's re-built from the
cases up with 2 new crank bearings, high ratio 5th gears, .5mm
over bore pistons & rings, a valve job and billet cam from
650 motorcycles. All new seals & gaskets, new clutch
plates & heavy springs, Boyer ignition and 36mm round
slides. Lots of parts purchased from Mikes XS, and the
fiberglass seat is from Omar's. I used stock cr125 bars with
some black powder coat added. The exhaust pipes are Shell
TT pipes with exhaust port optimizers and torque peak
optimizers. I still need to buy Omar's 19" rear wheel
conversion for the 19" e-bay special wheel I picked up for
30 bucks. All I have left to do is pull the motor again,
powder coat the frame and make the tank & seat look
pretty. This site has given me many ideals and I used your
"do it your self" pages when putting the motor back
together. Please feel free to send any comments or questions
to shanerides@hotmail.com .
