XS650 Swingarm Pivot Bolt Upgrade:

Stock Yamaha pivot bolt (above) is gun drilled to lubricate the swingarm pivot bushings with a zirk fitting fitted to the threaded end. A zirk / nipple /grease fitting can be added to the center of the bottom of the swingarm tube to allow the swingarm to be greased from the inside out, and eliminate the stock drilled swingarm pivot. One flat on the hex head on the Suzuki 78-80 GS1000 swingarm pivot bolt can be ground flat to install in the stock head retaining position on the Yamaha frame. 81-84 Suzuki GS1100 pivot bolts are a little longer and can be used with some washers on each end, by removing the steel block that secures the stock swingarm pivot head on the left side of the frame. The Suzuki pivot bolts are much stronger, especially at the threaded end.

Top Suzuki swingarm pivot bolt has a 16 mm threaded end and is a solid bolt. Stock gun drilled bottom pivot bolt has the short shoulder O.D. below the threads turned down close to the center drilled hole with only a 14mm thread and nut. Several riders have reported broken off threaded section failures at the same thin spot on the OEM pivot bolt.
