Custom XS 650:

Hi,

Here are some pictures of my first 650 project. My dad has done 2 so far (#844 and #1311), so he had a few parts bikes and he gave me one to work on. I built it as inexpensively as possible, but for an 18 year old going to college I did what I could afford. I got well outfitted by Mike's XS with the usual bearings and bushings, as well as the drag bars and diamond handgrips. I did most all the work just by myself and started with tearing two 650 parts bikes down the frame. Then I lengthened the swing arm 4 1/2 inches, lowered the seat about 3 inches, made custom battery box and rear fender mounts, and raked the neck so the front tire sits 5 inches forward from the original position. I painted the frame the Dodge color Amber Fire Pearl. I took the king and queen seat and cut it to make the single seat, and then made mounts to install it. I painted all the body parts charcoal with metal flake. The frame is from a 1979 650 Special, and the engine is from a 1983 650 Heritage. It runs but the engine needs some work, and I'm having some wiring issues, but the visual appearance is complete. I'm hoping to it running good on break from college. It has taken me 6 months from start to finish. I got a lot of my ideas from this site. Thanks to Mike's XS for have the parts readily available. Well hope you like it. Thanks!
