1976 XS650 In Australia:
Hi to all from Australia where you can ride 365 days a year. This is a pic of me when I went on a toy run for needy kids at Christmas. There wasn't one thing I didn't touch on the bike, Acront rims, stainless spokes, 750 big bore kit, bronze swingarm bushes, tapered roller bearings in the headstem (if you do the last 2 things you'll notice the handling will improve greatly). The shockers are off a Suzuki 750 water bottle and it lowered it an inch, you probably won't find another set of these as I think I got the last ones. Rear wheel is 16 inch with a 180 tyre, front was left stock 19 inch. I even got the electric starter working properly by renewing the gear which was worn (normally due to trying to start up on half charged battery) They need fully 12 volts to throw the gear in properly or else you'll get that grinding noise followed by a Clunk. This is your gear wearing out. http://www.650motorcycles.com/XSbendix.html. I can sit on 80 mph 2 up all day and it wouldn't miss a beat. The mufflers are tapered turbos (aftermarket) but fine and the sound is just great. I installed K and N air filters and increased my main jets by 10 to let it breathe. Remember when you give your 650 an oil change don't forget the strainer in the crankcase as it's often overlooked. http://www.650motorcycles.com/NewSump.html. Handle bars are Dog Bones with risers which made it comfortable for long trips. Take Care on the road and all the best from down under. Joe.
