Cafe Racer Project In Oz:
Hi,
Greetings from Oz. Thanks for the great site. There are
many inspiring bikes here. Here are a couple of pics of my
Cafe Racer project so far. It's a compillation of 2 incomplete
basket cases, a 77 and an 81. Frame is 77 with
tabs, centerstand and anything else I don't want removed. It
will be powder coated when I've finished the build. Front forks
are 35mm from 81 and reco'd with progressive
springs.Twin floating disks from Mikes. Clip ons are from a
Yammy YZ 250. (Beautifull billet alloy)SS bar end mirror.
I'm rebuilding the engine to stock with cases bead blasted and
covers polished and black barrels (engine in pics is dummy)
Vm 34 Mikunis with pod filters. I've got alloy rims with SS
spokes from Buchannans (still to lace
up)Hence the dirty old things in the pics. The exhaust I've made
myself from Stainless.Baffled Megaphones wth SS wool
packing. All fixtures are SS. It's going to get a strap down
alloy tank with monza cap and square back solo racing seat
in Ostrich leather, and minimist front guard when I get
around to making them. Rearset pegs are from something I cant
remember and are mounted on the passenger footpeg loop that
I have modified, which also holds an exhaust mount. I've
made my own control rods from SS. It'll have a Bates headlight
and mini guages from Mikes. All bearings and bushes have been
replaced and upgraded. I'm chucking the kick start and fitting
the battery etc in the seat tail. Tail lights and blinkers will
be LEDs. I'm going to make my electronic ignition from a Celica
(see XS 650 Garage forum) So far I've done everything
myself except the rebore and mandrel bends and cones for the
exhaust, and will try to not farm out anything else. Hope you
like it Ed. My email is ed1@tadaust.org.au
