carbs and intake set-up

Postby ratfinkd1 on Tue Nov 23, 2010 11:09 am

Picked up a 1980 650 a few days ago and it looks like everything is here for me to fire it up. I wanna get it running to see if there is anything wrong in the bottom end. Before I pull and tear down the engine. my question is from carb to head intake has a inlet on each the right side has cap on it the left has a hose with a screw in the end. Is that supposed to have a cap also?
If I understand correctly those inlets are used to connect a sync tool. Finally on the petcock their is a connection with no hose to carb. IS this the reserve its something I haven't seen anything like this on any of my dirt or street bikes ever. This is my second yamaha back about 12 years at least I had a rd 350 2 stroke streetbike and it seems like I remember only one outlet for that also. Anyways great forum and thanks in advance.

that bike had a vacum gas valve that the hose onb the left side went to. If the gas valve has been replaced then you can cap off the line and you need to sinc the carbs ken

Well I got the battery today in mail. Had to order it from the Honda dealership I worked at in another city. The dealership here wanted to charge me a 100 bucks!!!!! Told me that's retail. Suggested retail is 69.99. I got it from Dallas Honda for 46.00 shipped to the front door. Yeah I still get my employee discount. Anyways gtta get it filled and charge it. Thanks for the info. The connection is on the back of petcock ill try both ways I was told the bike was running before they drained the tank. We will see. Not my.first rodeo

Got the 650 running the day before thanksgiving. Ran a fuel line from dirbike to carbs stuck a hot battery and it actually fired off wouldnt idle. I have a little rust in the tank gonna try to get that cleaned up and hook everything right and go from there. Im poating a picture the airbox has been removed and the intakes look cracked so Ill look into that today. I'm also gonna add pics of my daily rider my 1997 cbr f3 ratfighter. Its stripped down with Solo seat from 2003 cbr Sawed off subframe. Lowered front and rear suspension is tightened down for the right look. The exhaust can was cut in half and rivetted back together. Once I get the 650 on the road I plan on tearing down the fighter and shaving tabs and other things off.
