kickback through kick starter

Postby truckman on Wed Jun 29, 2011 12:17 pm

The basics;
81 xs650
open pipes
re-jetted carbs
pamco ignition
disconnected starter motor

the problem;
when the engine is hot I can't kick it over. Several times through each stroke of the kick lever the engine kicks back on the lever hard enough, I am limping now. Please help! I really want to ride this bike. But am afraid when I stop for gas,it wont start again.

Timing like said, check valve clearances, make sure cam chain is set, carbs are syncd.
They are all basic things you should do or check once a year.

Timing is the obvious problem but I can think of two common reasons the timing is off. The first is you have not correctly timied the Pamco. The second is the mechanical advance is not moving freely is sticking in an advanced position.
