Another SX fork question.....

Postby hoytwotolsen on Fri Dec 17, 2010 7:21 pm

Hey guys. I'm a newbee to the forum. My question is about stock SX forks on a streettracker. Every body is aware of the floppy forks mostly because of the axel through one leg and clamped in the other. Could one use another left with the pinch clamp except on the right side so both are clamped? I not aware of any setback on the axel location on the leg. If there is...could it be turned around and lop off the caliper mounting lugs. I only want one brake for a TT set up anyway and I don't like the looks of fork braces.

Wouldn't this really help the forks from having the dreaded twisting-flexing-floppies. My question has 45 views at this point and no answer. Somebody's gotta know this one. This is where the guru'z chime in........

At the risk of being labeled a guru, the front end of a 650 will be improved imensly by getting rid of the original head bearings(you know the loose balls in the cups) and replacing them with some tapered rollers. A lot of the front end problems are related to the original bearings not the forks.

I have the new tappered bearings. I have never had a problem with the front end but I do not ride fast nor hard. I know this does not help. Maybe search for someone who makes a front brace to you check at omar's. I did maybe this. http://omarsdtr.com/new15.html
