Twin Discs

Postby Rossco on Thu Nov 19, 2009 1:12 am

I want to fit twin discs to my XS special 1981 H. I have a set of TOKIKO 4 pot calipers and master. What late model floating discs bolt on to the hub. Any one know?

With a set of callipers like that, I'd only run 1 disc, save a heap of unsprung weight & it's still going to launch the back wheel in the air under hard braking....
An amazing amount of discs will fit the std XS rim. Has to be similar offset though. This is where you'll have a bit of trouble. Std discs are very close to the fork legs already. FZ 750, FZR 750/1000 should fit (I've seen them fitted) others it's just a case of measure twice - buy once..Maybe TRX or TDM 850 will fit...XJ 900's maybe.

I'd probably take a XS rotor to a wrecker & size as many up as you can. Make sure you post what you find that works, obviously, you'll need to make a calliper adapter. Cheers

At this stage it looks like Suzi GSX 750 discs. The overall dia is 10mm bigger that will give me more clearance from the spokes. I have to drill new holes for bolting and either weld the old holes or plastic cap them. Don't really want to weld the ali centres. The overall unsprung weight will be slightly more than the single disc set up. The disc offset gives me 3mm clearance from the forks. The 4 pot TOKIKO calipers and master are off sv 650 suzi. The FZ discs don't have enough offset and would have to be packed out. I might be wrong at this stage as it is all research and no physical out come, but I have to start somewhere. So throw in your thoughts and see where we end up. Should be a cheep and effective conversion. My bike so far, http://profile.imageshack.us/user/rossc ... /006fy.jpg

1100 yam is a good option but very heavy as unsprung weight.
