...closely guarded secret...find a paint shop with a spectrophotometer, take them a sample of painted tin and they will be able to reasonably closely match it...wont be exactly perfect but hey, if you can go to the pub and drink her beautiful you will be happy with this solution...ka kite...enjoy...
Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Menopause is more fun for males. Females gain weight and get hot flashes. Males get to date young girls and ride motorcycles.

Exactly what i did. I went to my local auto paint supply with the tank of my 75 650 before i stripped it. Baja brown is the Yamaha colour but no code was available. They matched it reasonably close and cause I painted the whole bike no one is the wiser!!!

Thanks guys. First time I haven't been able to match a vehicle colour by numbers. Spectrometer sorted it out and laser cut decals, I'm well on the way to a new sparkle 2pac paint job.

From memory I think the xs1 xs2 came out in the orange or green but not sure if they were metallic?

The 71 paint was called Candy Orange, but yet my bike was very gold not orange. The 70 was Candy Green and the 72 was Brilliant Red. Couldn't find any codes that any paint shop could identify. I have had a guy get a House of Kolor paint, that was very close {again more gold than orange} and it was code #PBC30 Sunrise. You can google hok online and check samples to see how close it is. :)

My experience with paints is that any color with red pigment fades so yes it would probably be gold, I did run a shop at the coast and one day i was looking for a color to paint my car and I found a page of motorcycle codes , think I will call them and see if they still have that old book. :?:

:( No luck but I did find these guys http://www.cyclecolor.com/ and they have a neat idea they color match your parts, fading would cause an issue though  but I figured it would be a good post for the board :|
