277° Points Ignition Installation:

The points plate from a XS650. Holes #1 and #2 have 2 screws that hold the adjustable plate on. Location #3 is where the rubbing block to lubricate the points was removed, the other rubbing block remains. The holes at location #4 are where the points line up/mounting pin goes. It was originally in the left hand hole, now it goes in the hole on the right! Both of the holes for the points are already in the points plate!

1 and 2, and 1a and 2b are where the plate adjust. #3 was the old points hole that is tapped 4 X 70. #3b is drilled out to provide clearance on the back plate.

You drill the hole 1/8" and tap it with the 4 X 70 tap to mount the points in the new position. This hole location is critical!

The bottom set of points has the line up pin in the hole on the right.

You must grind the hole bigger on the bottom set of points (#1) for the new mounting screw, original size (4 X 70) .

The bottom mounting screw head has been ground down thinner to mount the plate (#2). The screw is installed part way and then the points mounting plate is installed. #3 is the other mounting screw.

The rest of the wiring is just like a stock bike!

I have two Dyna coils on the bike and they have a great spark!
